FIRE Dreams Crushed in Thailand. What can you do to protect yourself?

What to do when your LCOL overseas paradise gets too expensive for you to retire?
I finished reading an article on Thailand and the impact of currency fluctuation when retiring overseas.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-10-03/thailand-s-surging-baht-shatters-expat-dreams-of-easy-retirement
Before I FIRED, I worked for a helicopter company. When doing business in a foreign currency, we mitigated our revenue risk with currency hedges and contract escalators. There is not a contractual way (that I know of) to safeguard your retirement against foreign exchange (FOREX) risk, so what options do you have?
Has anyone looked at personal hedges on foreign currency? I never did the hedges myself, I always delegated that to the Treasury group at work, so I am not even sure where I would start to try and set up a currency hedge for my personal life. Any ideas?
What about other ways to help if there is a significant currency swing? I can think of a few ideas:
  1. Have a bigger buffer. Easier said than done. Everyone wants a bigger cushion, right? But in the cases cited in the article, some retirees complaining about the currency decline seemed ill-prepared for any contingencies.
In the Brian Maxey example, he was complaining that Pattaya was cheap when he retired early there at 55, 20 years ago. The article states that during those 20 years, the Thai Baht (THB) increased vs the British Pound (GBP) from 38 to 60 (up 58%).
But if we look at that 58% as an increase OVER 20 YEARS, that is a compound annual growth rate of 2.3%. 2.3% is lower than most FIRE advocates 3% inflation placeholder. I would argue that if an additional 2.3% in your expenses is unmanageable, then you might be cutting your retirement too close.
2) Diversify income streams. If you know you are retiring in another country long term (the people in the article bought homes), then having income in the foreign currency would be one way to handle fluctuations. As an example, if the people interviewed in the article had a portion of their investable assets in rental property, then as the THB increased in value, so would their income stream from their Thai rental property.
3) Be mobile. This is my current method. I don't purchase housing in any of the locations I live in. My leases are for 6 months or less. This option allows me the flexibility to move if I want to experience a new city or renew my contract if I like where I am at. I have seen the metamorphosis of some cities for the worse, and I am incredibly grateful to have flexibility.
\rant* A couple of years ago, I lived in a quaint, idyllic beach town in Cambodia called Sihanoukville that was heavenly, until the Chinese casinos and shady Chinese criminal element invaded. Luckily I could move, but some of my friends had businesses there and were screwed.*
The bohemian beach vibe of the town changed. Filth, garbage, crime, and pollution increased. Western tourism dried up. Rents increased as Chinese bought up beachfront property for sprawling hostel casinos. My friends were forced to liquidate businesses they owned for years at laughable prices.
4) Buy a house. Obviously, this is the opposite of the option above, but I understand if people want more stability than my nomadic life. If you're going to plant roots in a place, owning might be better than renting. Rents can increase, while your mortgage will stay fixed. If housing is generally 20-40% of your monthly expenses, at least a substantial portion of your monthly expenses is fixed.
What other ways would you guys consider protecting yourself against a similar situation?

How Hong Kong Protests are Portrayed By Different News Media Worldwide • Fake News vs. Real News •
This Russian government's state funded "news network" RT News is so comical to me, they would love to convince the whole world that the US has become a declining power, the US dollar is not the world's number one reserve currency, that the Chinese Yuan is and that all next generation high-tech in this planet is now being indigenously innovated in China.
https://i.redd.it/typ9ikw5wat31.jpg
It seems laughable to me watching RT news coverage of the Hong Kong demonstrations making real hard efforts to protrait the pro-democracy movement as being demonstrations of people "experiencing economic hardship" confusing democracy with "economic prosperity" whilst at the same time accusing the demonstrators of being manipulated and funded by Western intelligence services including the CIA.
I told myself "well which one is it? Are they confused demonstrators experiencing economic hardship or manipulated puppets of the West?" LOL!
At the end I just said to myself what an insult to the Hong Kong pro-democracy demonstrators. Portraying them of not being intelligent enough to organize themselves and accusing them of not knowing their own cause.
China's CGTN in the other hand while just as bad if not worse than RT, does a lot better job at spreading propaganda. Perhaps because they are much better funded. Doing it a lot more tactfully and assertively.
Their efforts being more concentrated at projecting China as a highly-developed Nation under the rule of law, and a "responsible world leader", minimizing if not censoring the impact the trade war with the US has had on their economy. With it's market widely open to foreign investment where IP protection takes the highest priority.
Covering the situation in Hong Kong more or less as a "city under siege of rioters and vandalism".
Even going as far as calling Xin Jiang China a "prosperous paradise for Uighur Muslims". And you can forget any mentioning of "re-education camps". Even devoting entire segments to "China's human rights developments".
It's extraordinarily unbelievable the claims networks like RT news and CGTN from China make and how far they're willing to go to misinform their domestic population and now International audiences through their multilingual news branches which most governments where they operate consider them "Kremlin and Beijing propaganda outlets" rather than legitimate and credible news networks.

It's for these masterful intelligence operations expanding 2-3 decades, that I give China most credit for.
As to whether American is a declining power or not depends on how a state's power is measured but most importantly how it's perceived, individually and collectively by other nations.
What you personally believe, What region of the world you're in, which language you speak and what sources of information you have access to is actually more important than any public survey taken or any official state statistic or international ranking.
But a most recent survey conducted by 2019 Best countries and multiple other organizations surveyed 20,000 individuals from 4 different regions around the world. And when asked to name the most powerful countries in the world taking into consideration military, political and economic influence the US came in first followed by Russia with China surprisingly in 3rd place.
http://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/most-powerful-countries/
To summarize, in this modern day in age of false news, state propaganda and politically biased misinformation campaigns the most important thing is to no longer depend on a single source of information but multiple sources of information.
During my research I've compiled a list of reliable international news sources with at least an "attempt to report the news with limited bias" and report verified news with some degree of neutrality.
My most reliable news and information sources list is:
1 DW News (Germany)
2 PBS (U.S.)
3 Al Jazeera (Qatar)
4 BBC News (UK)
5 France 24 (France)
6 Wikipedia (US) in 285 languages.
Additionally here is a list of most unreliable, bias and heavily censored state funded international news organizations fiercely criticized for attempting to further domestic political propaganda abroad:
1 RT News (Russia)
2 CGTN (China)
3 CCTV (China)
4 TRT News (Turkey)
5 HispanTV / IRIB (Iran)
Finally, the following is a list I felt also needed to be compiled as it merits mentioning. News organizations that despite being politically biased, do report real news and events although be it spined to fit their narrative. But also exclude important and relevant news topics and/or allocate limited coverage to further their in-house political agendas:
1 TRT News (Turkey)
2 CNN News (US Far-left)
3 Fox News (US Far-right)
4 MSNBC News (US Far-Left)
5 Sky News Australia (Far-right)

Through various means raging from forced tech transfers, intellectual property and Trade secrets theft by either cyber attacks on foreign competitor's databases, corporate spying and bribery.

The list of companies whose intellectual property and trade secrets were stolen is so vast it couldn't be compiled in this article alone. But here are some important ones:
AMSC - Wind Turbine technology
Westinghouse - Nuclear technology
Solar World - Solar panel technology
Kawasaki Heavy Industries - High-Speed rail technology
US Steel - Steel Technology
Alcoa - Aluminium Technology
Micron - Semiconductor Technology
T-Mobile, Motorola, Cisco Systems and Nortel Networks - Wireless and Telecommunications Technology

UPDATE OCT 19, 2019
Here is an extraordinary piece from DW news debunking Hong Kong fake social media posts: https://youtu.be/9AB32zU_EW8
This is one of the reasons why I chose to place DW news at the top of my list. After watching this piece, Notice how besides exposing the chinese communist government's misinformation campaign it also exposes Twitter and Facebook as co-conspirators facilitating the spread of fake news propaganda in it's platforms. "Accepting money from the CCP".
Reporting news with a high degree of objectivity, covering this report from multiple sides, not just telling one side of the story.

Is Karatbit and Karatbars a scam?

On Tuesday 16th July, just a few weeks ago I was invited to attend a Karatbit, Karatbars/Karatbank presentation. The presentation was touting everything including a blockchain mobile phone. Someone had approached me over the weekend to investigate an investment, they had made with Karatbit/Karatbars. I attended the presentation with some research which, to be honest, was not that favourable to the company but nevertheless still went with an open mind.
KaratBank, a Singapore-based financial organization, has propelled another digital currency that it claims is bound to real physical gold. Is this a progressive thought – or a trick?
KaratBank, an organization located in Singapore, has quite recently declared the dispatch of KaratBank Coins (KBC), another digital currency it said is attached to gold. Be that as it may, not just the cost of gold, as different monetary forms — to real bits of gold: they're embedded in plastic cards or banknotes. In any event, that is the way it appears upon first sight.
KaratBank is a sister company of KaratBars International, located in Germany. KaratBars really sells gold in exceptionally small quantities (like 0.1g to 1g bullions), inserted into plastic cards (Karatbars) or money like notes (CashGold). The notes are famously overpriced: back when 1 gram of gold was $40, the 1g CashGold note cost $65.
As per KaratBank whitepaper, 10,000 KBC can be traded for 0.1g CashGold notes.
The initial coin offering kicked off earlier this year and proceeded until March 21, with the ICO starting March 22 (1 KBC = $0.05), Coin Telegraph reports.
Be that as it may, KaratBars International as an organization is emphatically connected with scams. A basic search for KaratBars on Google returns three connections with the word "scam" in them on the first page. KaratBars was prohibited in Canada in 2014 over an Autorité des marchés agents (AMF) with a Scam warning.
The Canadian government found that KaratBars executes some kind of multi-layered marketing (MLM), or "pyramid" scheme organisation that urged individuals to get new recruits and profit from their sales, promising a return of $15,000 to $136,000 every month.
In any case, Is KaratBank is a different story? All things considered, yes and no. Upon a more intensive look at the organization's whitepaper, one finds the following:
"United States of America citizens, residents (tax or otherwise) or green card holders, as well as residents of Canada, the People's Republic of China or the Republic of Singapore, are not qualified to partake in the KaratBank ICO."
As indicated by the Behind MLM site, the explanation behind this may lie in the way that those nations have actualized strict regulation on ICOs, and KaratBank does not have any desire to have anything to do with them.
"ICOs are not unlawful in the US or Canada. In the US, however, ICOs are ordinarily viewed as securities and require registration with the [Securities and Exchange Commission]," the site reads. "Singapore hasn't prohibited ICOs however it is one of the nations KaratBars International works in through the shell companies KaratPay and KaratBars Singapore. Singapore regulators closing those organizations down would cripple KaratBars International. The board most likely figure it's best not to take any risks."
To work lawfully in any purview, KaratBars International would need to register itself with the proper securities regulator in that jurisdiction, which the organization appears to need to abstain from, raising doubts.
From one's point of view what is disheartening is that blockchain is a great new technology and companies like this seem to mix their existing business with cryptocurrencies. Knowing full well that the general public does not really understand cryptocurrencies, let alone blockchain or Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). As a blockchain consultant, one feels obligated to pose some questions anyone thinking of getting involved should be asking.
At the presentation, I heard the presenters say “ Karatbars is giving its members the opportunity to buy gold in small quantities. They also encourage you to save in gold instead of paper money. This can easily be done by buying as little as 0.1 gram of gold or 1 gram - 2.5 gram or 5 grams.”
They said members can keep their gold in Karatbars' vault or ask them to send it to you. Cash gold is the most popular form of buying gold as the gold is embedded in a banknote. 24kt gold 99.9% pure makes it easier for anyone to accumulate wealth.
Karatbars is also involved in cryptocurrency and got their own coins, namely KBC and KCB coins. I'm going to get very deep into this, but the main thing to remember is that they say, “these coins are increasing in value and that it is backed by gold”. whereas and another Cryptocurrency is backed by nothing.
As a self-proclaimed proponent of blockchain and a graduate of Digital Forensics, I feel obligated to say a few words about this presentation on Karatbit or at least as a conscious citizen of this global world of technology users. Blockchain is a magnificent emerging technology that can be harnessed to do so many things. But most importantly it is a technology that provides one single source of truth. If groups are using this single source of truth technology to spread untruths, someone concerned must come out to say something. Blockchain is a technology that can put everyone on an even playing field but it seems very few understand it. The individuals with even the fleeting basic understanding can influence the general public perception of cryptocurrencies. This leads me to ask a great quote from a book called Richest Man in Babylon …. “if you want advice on investing in expensive jewels, why would you go to a butcher?”
The following is what the masses are being manipulated to attach their hopes and dreams. It is that “a further drop in the value of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies has recently left investors nursing heavy losses. Many proponents are holding out for a new breakout “if their digital assets can go mainstream.”
The most important part of that statement is “if their digital assets can go mainstream”. This made me ask some questions about Karatbit and this is what I came up with.
Something is fishy!! Can someone clarify the following?
Claim 1: Gold mine worth $900 million provides security.
Can’t find any official source as proof.

Claim 2: Backed by a gold mine in Africa
Can’t find any official source as proof.

Claim 3: Audit report by MM Revisors for a gold mine in Madagascar
Can’t find proof that MM Revisors exists. Not sure if this report was published by Karatbars Int (can’t find it on their official website), but this is being circulated by some investors as if it were.

Claim 4: Karatcoin Bank is a fully licensed crypto bank and is situated in Miami
Can’t find proof that they are registered as a licensed financial institute in Miami, Florida.
Can’t find Karatcoin Bank as a registered corporation, but found Karat Coin Corp.

Claim 5: Not a pyramid scheme
Karatbit describes this as an affiliate program but clearly is a pyramid scheme at best, see links below;

Claim 6: 100KBC = 1g of Gold at $40 per gram (1 KBC = $0.40) (guaranteed)
Total supply = 12,000,000,000 KBC (can’t find figures of circulating, so using supply instead)
Total gold needed to cover buy back of all coins:
12,000,000,000 / 100 = 120 000 000g = 120 tons (South Africa as a whole produced 139.9 tons of Gold in 2017).
Total money needed to buy back all the coins:
120 000 000g x $40 = $4.8 Billion
Can’t find proof that they have 120 tons of gold in storage (or backed up by the mines as claimed) or that they are at least worth $4.8 Billion to buy the gold?
Taking a more conservative approach:
According to icobench.com, they raised $100 000 000 with their ICO from 60% of the total supply.
Let’s assume the 60% of 12,000,000,000 is in circulation. This equals to 7,200,000,000 KBC.
Total gold needed for the buyback of 7,200,000,000 KBC:
7,200,000,000 / 100 = 72 000 000g = 72 tons
Total money needed to buy back all coins:
72 000 000g x $40 = $2.88 Billion
Loss for buying back the KBC that were sold during the ICO:
$100,000,000 - $2,880,000,000 = - $2,780,000,000
A potential loss of $2,78 Billion!!! Or am I taking crazy pills?

“Warning over 'scammers paradise' as watchdog reveals victims lost £27m to bitcoin, cryptocurrency and forex frauds last year”
• Some 1,850 cases were reported to Action Fraud, a 250% increase on 2017-18
• Victims lost an average of £14,600 - with fewer than 1 in 20 getting money back
• Investors are often initially told they've made a profit
• They are then encouraged to put in more money - at which point the fraudsters run off with their cash
Potential victims have been warned over bogus online 'get rich quick' schemes as it emerged people lost more than £27million to cryptocurrency and foreign exchange scams last year.
Fraudsters promise high returns to those who invest, according to Action Fraud and the Financial Conduct Authority.
Victims lost an average of £14,600 in 2018-19 and stand little chance of getting their money back.
Reports of cryptocurrency and forex investment scams increased by nearly 250 per cent in 2017-18, from 530 to nearly 1,850.
The scams work by criminals promoting get-rich-quick online trading platforms through social media. Posts often use fake celebrity endorsements and images of luxury items like expensive watches and cars.
Beat the scammers:
These then link to professional-looking websites where consumers are persuaded to invest.
Often investors are led to believe their first investment has successfully returned a profit, and are then enticed to invest more money or introduce friends in return for greater profits.
But the returns stop, the customer account is closed, and the scammer disappears with no further contact.
'Anyone handing over their hard-earned cash should make sure they understand what they're getting into, they've checked it's a legitimate investment, and not rely on hype and excitement from friends or social media.
'Investing isn't a get-rich-quick scheme - and anything that uses fear of missing out or requires you to invest before thinking is best to be avoided.'
Those considering an investment to check the following for tips on how to avoid investment fraud at www.fca.org.uk/scamsmart.
Scammers can be very convincing so always do your own research into any firm you are considering investing with, to make sure that they are the real deal.
'It's vital that people carry out the necessary checks to ensure that an investment they're considering is legitimate.
UK consumers are being increasingly targeted by crypto asset-related investment scams.
Certain crypto assets, like Bitcoin and Ether (also known as cryptocurrencies), are not regulated in the UK. This means that buying, selling or transferring these crypto-assets falls outside FCA remit. The same is true for the operation of a cryptocurrency exchange.
However, some types of crypto-asset products may be or may involve regulated investments depending on their nature and how they are structured. For example, firms that sell regulated investments with an underlying crypto asset element may need to be authorised by the FCA to do so.
In recent months, the FCA claims it has received an increasing number of reports about crypto-asset investment scams. Some of them may involve regulated activities, others don’t, but all use similar tactics.
How crypto-asset investment scams work
Cryptoasset fraudsters tend to advertise on social media – often using the images of celebrities or well-known individuals to promote cryptocurrency investments. In this case, laughably they said KaratBit was endorsed by Barak Obama’s sister. Who is she and what does she know about cryptocurrencies and blockchain? The ads then link to professional-looking websites. Consumers are then persuaded to make investments with the firm using cryptocurrencies or traditional currencies.
The firms operating the scams are usually based outside the UK but will claim to have a UK presence, often a prestigious City of London address.
Scam firms can manipulate software to distort prices and investment returns. They may scam people into buying the non-existent crypto asset. They are also known to suddenly close consumers’ online accounts and refuse to transfer the funds to them or ask for more money before the funds can be transferred.
Action Fraud has also issued a warning on cryptocurrency scams.
How to protect yourself
Be wary of adverts online and on social media promising high returns on investments in a crypto asset or crypto asset-related products.
Most firms advertising and selling investments in crypto-assets are not authorised by the FCA. This means that if you invest in certain crypto assets you will not have access to the Financial Ombudsman Service or the Financial Services Compensation Scheme if things go wrong.
The FCA doesn’t regulate crypto assets like Bitcoin or Ether which are vastly the most recognized cryptocurrencies, let alone KBC, they do regulate certain crypto-asset derivatives (such as futures contracts, CFDs and options), as well as those crypto assets I would consider securities. A firm must be authorised by FCA to advertise or sell these products in the UK – check FCA Register to make sure the firm is authorised. You can also check the FCA Warning List of firms to avoid.
You should do further research on the product you are considering and the firm you are considering investing with. Check with Companies House to see if the firm is registered as a UK company and for directors' names. To see if others have posted any concerns, search online for the firm's name, directors' names and the product you are considering.
If you’ve already decided you want to invest in gold, this might not be a bad company to side with. But if you’re just looking for an opportunity to earn a sustainable income and become financially independent, there are better options out there.

STORY
So my parents had recently bought a new flat and we were thinking of moving there. I always wanted a desktop PC in my room but because of the current room's small size and the fact that I had to share it with my brother I was not able to do that. In the new place, I would have my own room so the dream of building a PC which seemed distant before now was a real possibility and it made me really excited. I had been using an HP omen 2017 with a GTX 1050 for gaming previously but I really wanted to experience 1080p 144hz gaming, especially games like PUBG. So I began my research on the hardware and started making a PC part list.

THE GPU STORY:
Meanwhile, a really good friend of mine was on a trip to the USA and told me that he was buying a second-hand GTX 1080 for himself. I seized this opportunity to convince my friend to help me out and arrange another second-hand GTX 1080 for me as well. He finally pulled it through and got me the first piece of my computer. This costed me around 25k as after the conversion charges and all. He got it for $350. Got an iCX model for me and ACX 3.0 model for himself. The pair together looked so cool. Gotta admit, the Americans really keep their tech clean.

https://imgur.com/pvQYyA3

Comparing this to the prices in India just reminded me how sweet the deal was. Though checking prices for other PC parts got my josh to a stop. Though it was high again when I got to know that another friend doing his MS from the US was soon going to come to India on vacations. So back to the PC partpicker website we were. and the research took a full swing.

THE CPU STORY:
As my primary use of the desktop was gaming (and maybe streaming later), I started with an i5 8600k processor but quickly changed it to R7 2700 as it came with a stock cooler and paste. In an attempt to save money on an already expensive build. I was saving at least 12k on CPU, ram, and motherboard by sourcing them from America. The rates here are pathetic. Soon we got the news that the 9th gen processors would soon be releasing but seeing intel's stocks history, we decided not to wait for them. The 9900K had launched but it was really out of the budget. Watching reviews from the tech Jesus from GamersNexus it was clear that i5 was shitty when it came to streaming and gaming. and an R7 2700 needed around 1.4V to get a 4.2Ghz all core OC stable which could get us within 10 percent of the 8700k. I later decided to change the CPU to the x version of 2700 because of the beefy stock cooler and better binning which i thought would let me reach 4.2 all core OC without a problem with a price increase of just $50 that is around 3.5k. Chose an ASUS x470 motherboard to go along with this as it has a 6 phase VRM which we heard is really important when overclocking an 8 core 16 thread processor like the 2700X. I later read that the OC on 2700x did not improve gaming performance by much as the XFR was doing its thing really well. So, I thought of saving some cash on the motherboard by pairing it with an MSI B450 motherboard. This was also considering the weather conditions in India might not have allowed me to keep my 8 core CPU running OC 4.2 on all cores. Then came the black Friday idea and rates. This brought back the i7 8700k back to the equation again. This was because i was thinking of getting a 144hz panel and higher frame rates were easier on an i7 with a decent OC. Plus I really wanted to experiment with overclocking for fun. The 8700K was also suggested for gaming in many end of the year CPU reviews like LTTs and GamersNexus. The 8700K provided best streamer side fps while shelling out good viewer side performance for realistic encoding bitrates. And I felt I would not really utilize the 8 core 16 threads advantages on my desktop. Set a budget of $650 for the CPU, RAM, and SSD as their sizes were small and my friend could easily get those in his luggage.
the final run: Shifted a lot between the 2700x and the 8700k but went for the 8700k in the end for OC adventure, better gaming, and streaming(streamer side fps) performance, and better resale value. The decision was easier as I was getting it for 25k rather than the 40k price point in India. I got the processor for $340. Linus also had recommended the 8700k when it came to price to performance numbers. The ratio bettered when the black Friday sale rates were applied to them. Saved some money on the ram as well, going with a 16GB 3000mHz kit (got it for $100 on the sale) rather than something more which is essential for Ryzen.
So, finally bought
CPU: i7 8700K $360
RAM: 16GB 3000mHz Ram $100
SSD: 2.5" 860 EVO 500GB SSD $65

total: around 40,000 INR for CPU, RAM, and SSD. (Exchange rate was 73.23, used a FOREX card to place the orders)

BACK TO BASICS: NEHRU PLACE
No Indian build is complete without travel to the hardware paradise known as Nehru place.

MOTHERBOARD: MSI z3700- 11K
Der8auer suggested the MSI z370 board as it is cheap and can overclock decently. Went with this, no fight here.

CPU COOLER: Coolermaster ma620P- 4k
a very beefy cooler. A cooler enough to cool down a 5Ghz OC on an i7 8700K without needing to void the warranty on the chip to change the IHS thermal paste. High on LTT forum's tier wise list for CPU coolers. Almost among the best when it comes to price to performance ratio of air coolers in India. Hyper 212 EVO would not have been able to cool 5Ghz OC down.

MONITOR: Went with an LG 24GM79G 144hz 1080p monitor. -20.5K
The cheapest and most color accurate TN panel with the best contrast ratios and brightness levels.

PSU and CASE:
Coolermaster MB500 for case.- 5k
A good budget case with 3 stock RGB fans and dust filters.

Antec 650w PSU- 4.5k Semi modular. Who needs modular? hehe.

OC ADVENTURE:
This was the thing that was the most exciting and fun aspect of this build. After getting the bios, the drivers and the windows update, we got to work. I will be sharing snips of my trials of various settings that I experimented with and just mention the most stable settings here. The settings that I have it running now with absolutely zero problems. I hope this data helps.

CPU and RAM:
https://imgur.com/ygc2Y2U

stable at 5,000mhz all core boost at 1.35V. LLC level 4 with prime95 stable. Max temps reaching around 85 degrees and max power consumption around 160W. AVX offset off.
Memory OC, unfortunately, didn't work and I didn't wish to spend a ton of time messing with the timings and the sub timings of the RAM as it would not have lead to a noticeable change in gaming performance.
First, I was not trying for small ftts to be stable in prime95 but due to games like PUBG crashing in the middle of matches, I had to increase my voltages to gain the 5Ghz OC that I wanted.
note- the performance measurements are not linear as there were some windows updates with patches that decreased the CPU performance by a bit. The temps were recorded while cinebench was rendering. Used Intel burn test for the first pass and the second pass was the prime95 small ffts test.
I think I was lucky with this chip and I think I can achieve an easy stable 5.1 if I delid it.

GPU:
https://imgur.com/FYQlpMW
MSI afterburner was used.
Final OC was a manual curve modifier with freqs at max voltage reaching 2100 mhz on the core. The power consumption was 220W peak with max temps reaching only a meager 70 degrees in the uniengine heaven bench. power limit was set to 120% and voltage increased to the max. the fans autoed around 55 and the card didn't sound to be that loud.

Achieved a score of 3800 on uniengine ultra default settings.

COLOR:
monitor color settings if anyone is interested. Found it extremely hard to find good color settings on this panel.
https://imgur.com/eULWElE
B means brightness, C contrast, G gamma. on the right are the monitor color settings with contrast and brightness set to 100.

Lessons learned:
Using this system has been really fun. I won my first PUBG solo game on this system. I am really glad that I got to build this system, but there are some learning takeaways and personal suggestions that I would like to share with you guys.

  1. The difference between 120hz and 144hz is hardly noticeable. So, a R5 2600 would have been enough to be really honest. I am talking about the perceptual difference and not the difference that the FPS numbers show on the screen. Please save some money and go for a cheaper CPU.
  2. Colors on a TN panel are actually quite disheartening and only go for such a panel if you will mostly play competitive games on your system.
  3. Do not go for an x series CPU if you want to go with AMD. Overclocking is very simple and you can save money by just investing very little time and energy. I did not believe that when I was buying the components but I sure believe it now.
  4. Prime95 small ffts stability is not essential. Intel burn test imo is enough for stability testing the CPU. If the intel burn test passes, then most likely you would not encounter any stability issues.
  5. GTX 2060 is a solid deal for the price. It has comparable performance to the 1080 when OCed with extra features like ray tracing and DLSS.
  6. SSD is essential and I am doing fine with a 500GB SSD as my only drive. You really do not need a lot of space if you just want to game. If you are editing photos or videos then its another thing. I also mostly play one game (offline story sort) at a time so space is not much of an issue.
  7. If you have space, do not buy a gaming laptop. Go for a medium budget gaming desktop (maybe mATX or miniITX form factor), buy a second cheap laptop (only if you really need it) with a small processor which would inevitably mean a long battery life and put an SSD on the laptop. You will be sorted.
  8. Offtopic but- underclock your laptop cpu and gpu using ThrottleStop and Afterburner to increase performance and battery life.

I would love to answer questions and listen to suggestions. Please feel free to ask as many questions as possible. Also, DM me if anyone needs help with their build or is shy to ask here.

Whether India witnessed any leapfrog in the cashless payments due to DeMon & the force feeding by Govt & RBI? - fact check

Can you flaunt increase of even 200% of insignificant components like UPI and BHIM & say that we are leapfrog to DIGITAL UTOPIA? Ponder

Government is still in a Fools paradise and throttle the cash flow which is very much needed for the rural and retail economy of country

Edit:

If you have any queries related to this post, please address them directly to James Wilson on twitter.

This type of projects are the best investment opportunities.

Not many people understand the difference between trading and Investing. And that's why when they came into the crypto market, they think it's the same as forex or stock trading. Well somehow, charts and candles are the same but crypto underlying dynamics are totally different. The Crypto market is young as compared to Forex and stock market, that's why some crypto projects are like paradise for investors.
Most people call themselves traders but and I'm pretty sure 90% of them lose 90% of their money in 90% days.
If you want to accumulate wealth through crypto, then you have to operate from an investor mindset not from a trader's mindset. You need to scratch out the projects that already proved their strength with their past development and they have the ability to make future development better and better. These type of projects is all we need.
There are many good crypto projects out there that have good potential in the long-term. But more specifically, I'm looking at privacy coins. Why? Because their technology is better and advance. Ryocurrency is my center of attention nowadays, I watch videos about this coin recently and that is pretty shocking for me to see how could a 1-year-old small project does this kind of amazing development. But the truth is, this project is really something to look at.
Everything they have done till now is super cool. Ryo wallets, hash algorithm, emissions, business room, etc everything is worth to watch. After it's Upcoming updates like Atomic swaps, EEC, Mobile wallets will affect prices in a positive direction. Check more details realted to development from its roadmap.
From an investor perspective, Ryo fundamentals are strong enough and it determines the potential of the project in the bigger picture. It's now trading at $0.02534 which is a pretty cheap price. And technically it is now at the major support level on the daily chart. This could be a golden spot to buy.
So, I think projects like Ryocurrency are good investment opportunities because they are young, have better tech, creative stuff and still developing.
No matter what project you choose for investment, If it has good things like Ryo then don't be afraid and don't listen to others. Just go for it.

Forex May 6 youtube possible MLM

Hi. I have been thoroughly enjoying your youtube channel, and there was a particular story that caught my attention. It was published on May 6, talking about a Forex trading site, possible mlm. Lets start by saying that Forex is not an mlm. In a nutshell, it's a software that allows you to trade with real money and promises of a large payback while you learn the game. I have never traded, but know what it looks like, how to operate it and how much money you need. So here is my story. My childhood was pretty amazing. My parents have been married for a long time, both successful professionals, very well off financially. I mention this not to boast, but to give you an idea of how this has torn my family life to shreds. We are no strangers to mlm's, having had family members in Amway, Avon, Beauticontrol, and even though we never allowed ourselves to be recruited (our motto is go to college, network, be the best at your career), my parents would help them out by purchasing products here and there, while trying to explain to them how these were scams. One day, my dad comes home with this great opportunity a coworker had talked about. How he wanted to learn trading, because that's where the money was. Mom tried, to no avail, to explain to him how they had it made, how lucky they were (they worked their way from the bottom to the top), and that they didn't need it. Dad, enamored with the idea of one day retiring to some exotic island paradise with my mom, didn't listen and pushed forward. That, was the beginning of the nightmare. Dad somehow convinced Mom to sell my childhood home, with promises of a better one, you know, with the Forex money he would make. This money never came to fruition, so unable to buy another home, they began renting. He left his job, which was the big money maker at our home, and began pursuing this "opportunity" full time. This was 17 years ago. Because of the pressure he has placed on himself to see this through, he now suffers from high blood pressure, and Mom and I believe he is slowly being driven to madness. He will "work" on his computer all day and all night, barely eat, we have no family life, and Mom rarely sees him because it has consumed him so. He has become a shell of a person, going as far as taking money from me to finance this. To this day, we he is still going after this pipe dream, will listen to no one that tries to speak some sense into him, and has driven our family to ruin. They are now divorced. As I type I can't help but get emotional. I worry that at their age they have no financial stability and no financial future, because Dad has squandered everything they have worked so hard for. Mom keeps taking care of him, fearful that if she were to leave he will wither away in front of his computer. The saddest thing? He still believes, with every bone in his body, that this will pan out. He calls and all he can talk about is this. How he wants to teach me, how he is so close he can almost smell it. I have been hearing this for 17 years. It breaks my heart. If anyone can take something from my story then I have achieved my goal. Please be very careful with these "ponzi" schemes and mlm's. They are one in the same.

The Future is here and it Runs on A New Level of Trust

The Future is here and it Runs on A New Level of Trust

It’s not what we hoped for. We’re not happy about it But rather than rear up against the nightmare, we opt for an elegant solution to steer clear of incidences of fraud or misconduct.
At some point, news of brokerages engaging in appalling fraudulent behavior became too much to see as isolated slips by professionals who supposedly have their investors best interests at heart. There was the case of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) fining HPI Forex Limited $255,000 for failing to adhere to client money segregation rules. The brokerage company had mishandled its customer of customer funds of over $1million over a period of 13 months. There was also the case of individual brokers like Christian Robert Mayer of Eden Prairie, Minnesota being fined $100,000 in penalties and banned by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for fraudulent trading schemes.
High-frequency brokerage firms buy, sell or cancel financial instruments in a matter of seconds, making it hard for fraud to be detected. While such trading at large volumes grants greater liquidity to the markets, helps lower costs for all investors, it can also open up new opportunities for manipulating prices. These manipulative brokerages thrive by making a little bit of profit from lots of trades, unlike those trading on inside information who seek the big payoff through a quick strike before the information is disclosed. Many brokerages do not want to tip off the direction of their investments, nor do they disclose the best prices available to maintain competitive advantage. But this lack of transparency leaves investors anxiously sitting out in the dark.
Peter Lynch, the American investor, mutual fund manager, and philanthropist whose net worth is reported at US$352 million in March 2006, stated “It would be wonderful if we could avoid the common setbacks with timely exits.”
Now is the time for all investors to walk away from questionable brokerages who are not transparent in the dealings nor are they accountable. The age of the Internet has exposed a rich portrait of these brokerage-led psychological and economic vulnerabilities. Out of the depths of the distressing backdrop, investors have their eye on another boom that rose to stratospheric heights through the emergence of Cryptocurrency and Blockchain.
While Cryptocurrency is often associated with wild volatility, the base of its technology that is Blockchain will be the bedrock that will host new bluechip industries, because the technology itself is all about creating one priceless asset: trust.
The need for trust is why companies like Google, Facebook and Amazon turned into de-facto monopolies in the first place. Back then; we liked the idea that the Internet allowed us to remain neutral. But with the recent Facebook-Cambridge Analytica data scandal, suddenly we don’t like the idea of these giants having vast amounts of data of our habits, purchases, likes and dislikes. Now we are a little suspicious, we demand for the right to not have our data collected, we demand to know what they will do with the data, we demand for complete accountability and transparency.
As Internet 2.0, Blockchain records all of our activities and transactions on a distributed open ledger that is unalterable, and unbreakable. This technology reduces the cost of trust by means of a decentralized approach to accounting and gives a new way to structure economies of organizations and countries. Think about this. No one can hide his or her transactions. Not brokerages, companies or governments. Not even technological companies like Google or Facebook. This is groundbreaking.
New ways of investing, trading and businesses will develop, because people will demand trust and accountability at the base of all transactions. On Blockchain, the power to invest, trade or do business will flow back to the people and companies will have to evolve to meet that demand. One such example of a game-changing investment Blockchain platform is Level01, the World’s first Brokerless Derivatives Exchange in Partnership with Thomson Reuters.

https://preview.redd.it/hnz7q8mug7121.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=dc6d0319724e541a1a328dbf8dfea30ec7a83c5a
What makes Level01 revolutionary is the fact that it can unite and grow the global derivatives exchange market, not by just mere millions, but by mind-blowing quadrillions in terms of investment assets. When people realize that this independent platform equips them with credible real time investment data, powerful big data analytics, trade matching capabilities, rated peer to peer trading, transparent and accountable transactions automated by digital smart contracts, they are going to drop those fraudulent brokerages, for a tool that gives them the freedom to make lucrative return on investments based on their own informed decisions, choice of trade partners and investment assets. In his song, “Power to the People” John Lennon aptly added “..say we want a revolution. We better get on right away”
Considering that almost all exchanges around the world draw large amounts of price differences, quantity differences, spread, exchange rate differences packaged with lengthy legal terms and conditions that hide large amounts of direct and indirect costs. Level01 stands out as every investor’s paradise because of its accountability, transparency, low cost to entry and dedication to circumvent all possibility of risk and fraud that can be caused by humans.
Level01 is an example of the unbreakable trust enabled by Blockchain. This is where we are protected by mathematical rules and impregnable cryptography, rather than trust in fallible humans or institutions. The code and structure of the Blockchain are what guarantees the integrity of the ledger. It’s a version of what the cryptographer Ian Grigg described as “triple-entry bookkeeping”: one entry on the debit side, another for the credit, and a third into an immutable, undisputed, shared ledger. There’s just no room for fraud, just a level open and fair playing field for all.
If all of this seems unfathomable, just remember that not very long ago when the Internet was first invented, no one could predict the rise of Google or Facebook. But that is what you get when you have platforms can enable scale and give power to the people. Blockchain’s core components of algorithmic consensus and distributed book keeping provides the base for platforms like Level01 to create a new paradigm shift that will disrupt financial institutions that currently dominate our centralized economy. In this case, we will be saying good-bye to manipulation and fraud in most derivatives exchanges.

Let's start a chatroom

My goal is to have a day trader paradise chatroom, with hundreds (actually thousands) of members. Where we can have productive conversations about the things we love the most.
I thought we can do this one of two ways:
  1. Everyone interested in starting a chatroom may do so and announce it in this thread. Then members of DTP can sign in to different rooms and see which one they would like to stay at
  2. We decide on a single platform and collectively we can promote it. In anticipation of this being preferred choice, I have reached out to mods from all the large trading subs and most have agreed to sticky our chatroom on their subs as a gesture of friendly sportsmanship. So far I've asked:investing, stocks, stockmarket, wallstreetbets, algotrading, optionstrading, personalfinance, forex, and many more
